Kawasaki Engine Service Kits by Model: Every Kit Part Number

One part number, one box, everything your engine’s annual service needs — here’s the complete Kawasaki kit lookup for FH, FJ, FR, FT, and FX engines, in both 10W-40 and 20W-50.

Half the mistakes I see at the parts counter happen when someone builds their own service order. They will have the right oil but wrong filter or the right plugs but wrong pre-cleaner. Kawasaki solved this problem years ago with complete engine service kits and most owners have never heard of them. One kit number gets you every maintenance item matched to your exact engine family, straight from the factory.

What’s in a Kawasaki Service Kit?

Kawasaki packages these as complete engine service kits and you’ll often see them labeled TUK (tune-up kit) in dealer systems. Each kit bundles the maintenance items matched to one specific engine family: engine oil in the kit’s grade, oil filter, air filter and pre-cleaner, and spark plugs. Exact contents vary by engine family, so check the listing on your specific kit number.

The value isn’t just convenience. Every part in the box is the correct OEM number for that engine range. There’s no cross-referencing, no “close enough” filter, no discovering mid-service that you grabbed plugs for the wrong twin. Kit pricing typically lands below what the same parts cost individually.

Money-Saving Alternative

You don’t have to buy the boxed kit to service your engine right. You can typically piece together your own kit by mixing OEM parts where they matter most with quality aftermarket crosses on the rest and save on the upfront cost. That’s exactly what our cross-reference guides are built for. Every OEM number in these kits has vetted aftermarket equivalents listed in our FR, FS, FX, and FT series posts.

10W-40 or 20W-50: Picking the Right Kit

Both grades are Kawasaki-approved for these engines. The choice comes down to your climate and how hard the machine works. 10W-40 is thinner at startup and at operating temperature. It’s the best all-around choice for moderate climates, gives easier cold-weather starts, and even nets slightly better fuel economy. 20W-50 is thicker at both startup and full temperature. It holds a stronger protective film in extreme heat and under heavy loads, resists metal-to-metal wear in air-cooled engines that run hot all day, and reduces oil consumption in hard-working or high-hour engines.

Choose 10W-40 If… Choose 20W-50 If…
You mow in a moderate climate with normal residential or light commercial use You operate in sustained extreme heat. Think all-day summer mowing in the South
The machine gets started in cool spring and fall weather The engine runs under heavy load for long stretches (commercial routes, thick growth, hills)
You want easier cold starts and less startup drag Your air-cooled engine runs hot all day and you want maximum film strength
You’re not sure — this is the safe default for most operators A high-hour engine has started consuming oil
Parts Counter Note

My default recommendation at the counter is the 10W-40 kit for most operators in a climate like ours here in Kentucky. But if you’re running commercial routes through July and August heat, or your machine works hard all day every day, the 20W-50 kit is the better protector. That thicker film at high temperature is exactly what a heat-soaked air-cooled twin wants. One caution: 20W-50 in cold weather adds startup drag and can make cold starts harder, so don’t run it year-round in a four-season climate. When in doubt, verify against the oil recommendation chart at KawasakiEnginesUSA.com for your engine and temperature range.

Watch Out

Two kit numbers carry an “A” suffix — 99969-6534A and 99969-6536A for the FH381V–580V and FH451V–580V in 20W-50. Include the suffix when ordering or you may pull a superseded number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in a Kawasaki engine service kit?
Kawasaki service kits (often labeled TUK, tune-up kit) bundle the maintenance items matched to a specific engine family in one box. Typically engine oil in the kit’s grade, an oil filter, air filter and pre-cleaner, and spark plugs. Exact contents vary by engine family, so verify the listing for your kit number.
How do I know which kit fits my engine?
Match the engine model code printed on the label on your engine housing (for example FR691V or FX730V) to the engine family ranges in the table above, then choose the 10W-40 or 20W-50 version based on your climate and workload.
Should I choose the 10W-40 or 20W-50 kit?
10W-40 is the all-around choice for moderate climates, with easier cold starts and less drag. Choose 20W-50 if you operate in extreme heat or under heavy loads: the thicker oil holds a stronger protective film at high operating temperatures and reduces oil consumption in hot-running air-cooled engines. Avoid 20W-50 in cold weather, and verify against the Kawasaki oil recommendation chart.
Is a service kit cheaper than buying the parts separately?
Usually, yes. Kit pricing typically comes in below the sum of the individual OEM parts, and you also avoid the risk of pulling a wrong filter or plug number, since Kawasaki matches the contents to the engine family.
